CommUnity is a mobile app designed to create stronger connections among community members by bridging gaps within neighborhoods, cities, and local networks. The primary motivation behind the app is to provide a platform where individuals—especially those in vulnerable situations, such as the elderly, people with disabilities, or those living alone—can easily access help and support when they need it the most.
The app aims to create a supportive environment where residents can request assistance, share information, and connect with others nearby. Whether it’s help with groceries, transportation, or simply finding someone to chat with, CommUnity provides an accessible and reliable solution to enhance social bonds within communities.
Goal
For my third design, I wanted to make something unique that would also serve as a tool to help the community and overall a public good. I thought of CommUnity as a great way to display all my skills while also achieving this vision. I have seen apps focused around a similar concept, but I wanted the main focus of CommUnity to be giving a platform for those that need help to easily connect with those around them and for those that want to offer their help to find those that need it. Another focus of the app is for members to connect through community events listed on the app.
User Feed
Features
The User Feed serves as the Home tab and central hub for interaction within the app, where users can engage with various types of posts including help requests, community questions, and general discussions. It operates much like a social media feed but is centered on local, community-based interactions.
Calendar
The Calendar section provides users with an organized list of upcoming events in the area and within the community. This feature is designed to keep the community informed and engaged in local initiatives.
Community Map
The Map section provides a geographical view of the area with pins that represent different types of community-related content such as posts asking for help, events, and other community resources.
Tutorial
CommUnity is an app that should be accessible to everyone in the community. Therefore. I thought making a tutorial for the app that users could go through when logging in for the first time would be important. This would allow people from different levels of experience using mobile applications like these to better understand the app and how to use it.
